Supported Video Formats and Limits
The exact file types, codecs and size limits for videos on Xacheus.
Last updated 19 October 2026
These are the technical limits for video on Xacheus today.
Video posts
| Maximum file size | 25 MB per video |
| Container formats | MP4, MOV (QuickTime) |
| Video codecs | H.264 and HEVC (H.265) |
HEVC support means videos recorded on modern phones — including recent iPhones, which record HEVC by default — upload without being converted first.
Stories with video
A video story can be up to 90 seconds long and disappears after 24 hours like any story.
Keeping files within the limits
- Trim — cut the parts you do not need; most gallery apps can do this.
- Compress — record in 720p instead of 4K for long clips, or use a compressor app.
- Wi-Fi — uploading large files on mobile data can be slow and expensive; 25 MB is quick on Wi-Fi.
Audio
Video audio is carried with the file; there is no separate audio track to upload.
If your file is refused
If the composer says the file is too large or unsupported, check the table above. A file that looks like an MP4 but was recorded by an unusual app may actually be another format — re-exporting it from your gallery app usually fixes this. See Troubleshooting video uploads.
