Troubleshooting Video Playback
Fixes for videos that will not play, keep buffering, or play without sound.
Last updated 19 October 2026
A video that will not play is almost always one of four things: the connection, the volume, an old app version, or a file problem on the uploader's side.
Quick checks first
- Tap the video — videos in the Feed can start paused or muted; tap to play and check the mute icon.
- Check your connection — video is the heaviest thing on Xacheus. On weak mobile data, let it load or switch to Wi-Fi.
- Scroll away and back — this restarts the player and clears a stuck one.
- Close and reopen the app — or refresh the page in the browser.
Still not playing
- Update the app — old versions miss newer video formats. Update Xacheus from the Play Store and try again.
- Free up memory — close other apps; a device low on memory struggles with video.
- Try another video — if other videos play, the problem is that specific upload, not your setup.
- Data saver — if you have data saver mode on (in your device settings or the app), it can block autoplay. Turn it on or off deliberately: see your data saver settings.
Sound problems
Check the mute icon on the player first, then your device's volume and silent switch. Some videos are uploaded without sound by their creators.
Autoplay
Autoplay can be controlled in the app. If videos start (or refuse to start) by themselves, check the autoplay setting — see Watching videos on Xacheus.
If nothing works
The video may have a problem only the uploader or the team can fix. Report a technical problem and say which video, on which screen, and what happens (black screen, spinner, error text).
