Applications are now open for the HIAS and IFSH Joint Fellowship Program 2027 in Hamburg, Germany , offering accomplished researchers and scholars an opportunity to pursue independent research in the fields of peace, security, political violence, European security, emerging technologies, climate security, and related interdisciplinary areas. Jointly offered by the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) and the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg (IFSH) , the fellowship provides selected scholars with the opportunity to live and work in Hamburg while advancing an independent research project within an interdisciplinary and internationally connected academic environment. The fellowship is designed primarily for outstanding scholars who have completed a doctorate and demonstrated substantial academic achievement. However, applications from artists, policymakers, and other professionals may also be considered when their work is closely connected to the fellowship’s research priorities and engages substantively with scholarly inquiry. Selected fellows will benefit from financial support, a fully equipped workspace, interdisciplinary academic exchange, connections to Hamburg’s research community, an IFSH academic tandem partner, and support with accommodation and family arrangements.
